Live Updates from Photokina: Photos and News

by Mike Zawadzki, Technical Specialist
Photokina, one of the biggest photography exhibits/conferences is finally underway in Cologne, Germany.  Luckily for us, Alexander Sweetwood, an executive at Unique Photo, is there to check out all of the new products and developing technologies that are being shown off by Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Fujifilm, Panasonic, etc...  Personally, I am in New York City today at the Createasphere trade show (formerly known as HD Expo).  Alexander will be sending me pictures and any interesting news he sees in Cologne.  Everything is after the jump/break and keep checking back as I will be continuously updating this post!

FUJIFLIM

You can read more about the Fuji Finepix X100 here.

NIKON
For more information on the Nikon announcements click here and here.  Added a picture of the D7000, according to Alexander the Nikon area has been excessively busy.  I'm not surprised, they launched two new DSLR, a new flash, and 10 lenses this year.

CANON
Canon has a big presence at Photoknia, but all of their products for 2010 have already been announced and shown off earlier this month at Canon Expo.  For more on the latest Canon products and a report from Canon Expo, check out the links bellow.

SIGMA
Sigma really surprised everyone by announcing the development of a brand new 46 Megapixel Foveon sensor camera, the SD1.  When the SD15 was introduced I didn't even bother talking about it because the specs are so underwhelming compared to the competition.  The new sensor could breathe new life into Sigma's obvious desire to become a competitive camera manufacturer in addition to their popular line of lenses.  Sigma also introduced some new lenses such as the professional level 120-300 f/2.8 OS (pictured bellow) which replaces an earlier model which did not have Optical Stabilization or proper weather sealing.

SONY
Sony already launched all of it's new imaging products such as the a560/580, a33/55, and a few new lenses, so there were no surprises here.  Of course Sony did have a very large presence to show them off.  Here is a picture of a shooting area set up where attendees can try out Sony cameras on moving subjects.
